More Interesting Than I Expected: Mecha Smile Impact 2026 – New Pipeline Reveals

Good Smile Company, and their mecha-centric brand Good Mecha Smile, has been doing an amazing job in providing model kits and figures to new and obscure properties that would otherwise be skipped by larger manufacturers. And in the recent Mecha Smile Impact 2026, there were several reveals that did pique my interest. Whether these translate to actual pre-orders are still uncertain, but they are at least successful in getting attention.

Note that since these are pipeline reveals, no release dates were provided.

MODEROID Avid (I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!)

Coming from one of those lengthy-titled isekai entries is MODEROID Avid from I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!— a light novel series centering on Liam Sera Banfield, who previously lived a virtuous albeit misrable life, and decided to become fully evil on his next. He pilots the equally dark Avid as part of his conquest.

Avid was also the top choice in the recent MODEROID survey so the team at Good Mecha Smile is working hard to ensure that they get the silhouette, as well as all the weapons and accessories Avid uses, as accurate as possible.

I did watch the first couple of episodes of I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire! and having this kit might be a good motivation to watch the rest of the series.

MODEROID Nanajin (The Wings of Rean)

Say what you will about The Wings of Rean, but I can pick two good things from this OVA. First is the amazing ending theme by Anna Tsuchiya (look for “My Fate” on your preferred music streaming service), and second is Nanajin–the lead Aura Battler for this story. I believe it only got a single figure from way back when, so having a model kit to hopefully match the recent HG Dunbine kits would be such a treat.

The reveal mentions using clear plastic for the wings deployed from the head, as well as parts for the main wings on its back. It also comes with its sword as main weapon. Announced along with Nanajin is Oukaou, though I’m primarily interested with just the former.

MODEROID Delphine Fourth Form (Break Blade)

It’s been a while since I watched Break Blade or Broken Blade, and I’ve forgotten how many forms the lead machine Delphine had. Good Smile Company has released both the Second and Third Forms, so they can go either with the First or the Fourth Form. Can you guess which they went with?

This is MODEROID Delphine Fourth Form and I watched the scene where this configuration appeared recently. Despite being called the “Fourth Form” I remember this coming before the one with the red armor. Either way, this form utilizes high speed for surprise melee attacks. If I remember correct, I don’t think this version got a RIOBOT release, so this will be the first representation of this form in plastic.

Much like the Third Form, you can strip down the Fourth Form into just the core Delphine unit, and you can see that it is a little different than what we would’ve seen with the Second Form. It also comes with a full complement of weapons as seen here.

MODEROID Equus (Concrete Revolutio: Superhuman Phantasmagoria)

Getting into unfamiliar territory, we have MODEROID Equus from Concrete Revolutio: Superhuman Phantasmagoria. And this is what I love about the MODEROID line. The source doesn’t have to be a mecha series, as long as there’s some semblance of a mecha in it, they can produce a kit for it.

Concrete Revolutio is a 2015 series from Bones and is directed by Seiji Mizushima who also did Gundam 00. The plot involes superheroes and paranormal phenomena, with the Japanese government setting up the “Superhuman Bureau” to keep everything under wraps.

Our main protagonist is Jiro Hitoyoshi, who drives a silver supercar which can also transform into a quadruped mecha called Equus. As far as the kit is concerned, I don’t think there’s any transformation feature involved, and that’s totally fine if it’s a trade off for better proportions, articulation, and stability.

MODEROID Orguss 02 (Super Dimension Century Orguss 02)

Good Smile Company recently announced a reissue of the MODEROID Orguss, and this announcement puts more sense to that reissue decision. I haven’t watched the original Orguss, nor am I familiar of the Orguss 02 sequel OVA. But regardless, we are getting a model kit of the titular MODEROID Orguss 02.

Much like Nanajin, there’s no kit of the Orguss 02 for the last 30 years, so if you have MODEROID Orguss, it will be a no brainer not to get Orguss 02 and display them side-by-side.

Much like the orignal, Orguss 02 can also transform from Orgroid to Flier mode, and the kit is able to do the same using replacement parts.

MODEROID Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory 1/60 Series

Before going to the last entry in my list, I do want to quickly mention that MODEROID is continuing their Full Metal Panic! coverage with this new lineup of 1/60 scale kits from Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory. It’s been several years since the anime concluded, along with the HG kits from Bandai Hobby, so Good Smile Company is taking the license with their own lineup.

I want to say the Bandai Hobby HGs look better, but there’s a better chance for the less known Arm Slaves to get kits with the MODEROID line up. I’m not planning on getting these at the moment, heck my HG Arbalest and Laevatein are still in the backlog. But let’s see the extent this lineup will go.

MODEROID Gipsy Danger (Pacific Rim)

The last kit on this list caught me by surprise. If you remember, Max Factory under the PLAMAX line did release several Pacific Rim kits. These were massive and a little complicated, possibly to their detriment. I believe only Gipsy Danger and Cherno Alpha were made during this run. Now, it’s Good Smile’s turn as they are releasing their Pacific Rim kits in the MODEROID line.

The announcement sort of, kind of, came at a good time as I was long contemplating on getting the officially licensed figures from LinhJiHyun. I wasn’t wanting them enough to pull the trigger, not to mention their price tag. I’m also unsure of the size those figures come in, and from what they showed during the live stream, MODEROID Gipsy Danger might be the better option.

The reveal mentions the inclusion of the Chain Sword, in both configurations, and the Plasma Caster as primary weapons. It also appears to use clear parts for the head visor. I do hope water slide decals are also included for all the markings.

This is the closest we have to getting the size of this kit. Compared to the PLAMAX versions which are much larger, MODEROID Gipsy Danger seems to be more desktop sized, I want to say around 170 to 180mm. This would be perfect for my collection and might even size up with the Evangelion model kits.

They’re also promising to do the other Jaegers from the film so it will be a treat to anticipate which one will come next.

Not sure if I mentioned it here or in another post, but being interested in these reveals doesn’t automatically translate for day one pre-orders. My primary consideration is the size since most of these kits are non-scale. I’ll have to solely rely on their reported height to see if I’ll pick one. Of course, cost is going to be a factor and I did skip ordering on some kits when pre-orders were up, only to pick copies in the aftermarket.

So we’ll see, but these are an interesting bunch in my opinion. You can check out the actual live stream via the video below.

Oh and before I forget, there’s this new cross-company franchise Good Smile has launched at the same time. I should probably cover that as well…

Thoughts?
