A couple of days ago, Tamashii Nations released an image of their next Soul of Chogokin release. It’s obviously Com-Battler V, but it’s a little different. Armor panels and details have been added to make this version seemingly look closer to the Voltes V: Legacy version of Voltes V. Discussions started taking place online until a follow up video was released, which is in commemoration of Com-Battler V‘s 50th anniversary.
And now, we have a better idea of what this figure is. This is Soul of Chogokin GX-121 Com-Battler V6, and for those not familiar with this version, let’s take a deeper dive.
Com-Battler V6 is an upgraded form of Com-Battler V seen from the manga Chodenji Taisen Victory Five or Super Electromagnetic Wars Victory Five written by Yuichi Hasegawa. Yes, the same person who’s still doing never-ending the Crossbone Gundam manga. Com-Battler V6 is formed with the combination of the sixth Battle Machine, the Battle Armor to Com-Battler V.
I’m inclined to believe the folks over at Tamashii Nations used this as an opportunity to put a different spin (pun intended) to the original Com-Battler V design and give it the “Legacy” or “Infinitism” treatment with the added panels and details, modernizing the aesthetic altogether. Bandai Hobby did multiple kits in this aesthetic with the Go Nagai super robots and I’m wondering if we’re getting another crack at modernizing super robot designs this time.
In addition to the new Com-Battler V6 upgrade, the core Com-Battler V has all the features and gimmicks seen from previous versions, but with updates based on feedback from those previous versions. These cover both the articulation and stability of the figure.
For weapons and accessories, the set comes with parts for the Super Electromagnetic Yoyo (plus effect parts), a pair of Twin Lancers, parts for the Super Electromagnetic Spin, replacement manipulators, and a display stand.
But of course, the main event of this set is the Com-Battler V6 combination, which is primarily done with the Battle Armor. When the components that make up this vehicle purge and combine with Com-Battler V6, the upgraded form is completed.
Com-Battler V6 gets new armor panels to the arms, legs, back, and the front chest which is replicated with the use of clear yellow plastic with silver details underneath. I’ve always thought Com-Battler V has a lanky design with those long legs compared to the rest of the body. This configuration sort of balances out the proportions and looks good overall.
The added armor parts doesn’t hinder any of the articulation. In fact, you can see Com-Battler V6 here clearly demonstrating a Rider Kick without any issues. How you’lll get it to stay in that pose is another story though. They also mention that the frame parts that hold Battle Armor together in vehicle form can be attached to the back as additional thrusters.
In terms of weapons, the new parts primarily enhance the Super Electromagnetc Spin attack with the new blades on the forearms flipping up, increasing the damage dealt to the enemy.
Here’s a comparison between the GX-121 and GX-50SP versions of Com-Battler V, with the latest version being slightly taller. You can also better see here the differences in terms of the added panels and different armor shapes. Most notable are the larger yellow fins on the shoulders, the more complicated geometry on the forearms and how the red section of the chest armor curves up, instead of a straight V shape.
Tamashii Nations also released a great video, which is very reminiscent of the CGI in Voltes V: Legacy that shows Com-Battler V6 in action.
Soul of Chogokin GX-121 Com-Battler V6

As part of the 50th Anniversary tie-ins, and teased towards the end of the video above, Bandai Shokugan is also releasing another SMP [Shokugan Modeling Project] Com-Battler V, and this looks way more “Legacy-esque” than GX-121 over here.
Fresh out of Wonder Festival Summer 2026, we have the tentatively named SMP [Shokugan Modeling Project] Com-Battler V Ver.2.0. No release information has been given outside the name card seen here, and that one’s even tagged as a placeholder.
I do have a spitball theory on why this is happening. You see, the production company that did Voltes V: Legacy is also doing a live-action version of Daimos. Which means we will likely see an updated and modernized version of its design. However, I don’t see the same treatment being done to Com-Battler V since it wasn’t part of the nostalgia train that both Voltes V and Daimos belonged to. So there will be a gap whenever the live-action Daimos comes out and all the figures plus model kits come out, and Com-Battler V gets nothing.
But that’s just my conjecture.
