It’s been a couple of weeks since Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- was released in theaters and at this point, Bandai Spirits is now comfortable releasing information considered spoilers for anyone outside Japan who has to yet watch the film. And along with this information are upcoming figures and kits.
First is the HG 1/144 gMS-Ω Red Gundam (U.C. 0085), or what was once Char’s Gundam during the One Year War and is now used by Shuji. This would also be our first look at this mobile suit outside of the lineart from the various pamphlets and it looks quite better than anticipated. Some have already said to never trust the line art and this is yet another example of that. It still belongs to the “acquired taste” kind of design, but looks more palatable as a model kit.
That said, I am on the fence on whether to get this or not. For one, I prefer this mobile suit in the original RX-78-02 White Gundam colors, and I’m quite sure we would be getting that variation, at least, as a Premium Bandai kit. Or better yet, make the White Gundam a regular release and have the 01 Gundam be the online exclusive instead.
HG 1/144 Red Gundam

To those who prefer their robots as pre-assembled and pre-painted figures, then Tamashii Nations has got you covered as they are also releasing Metal Robot Spirits versions of both the White Gundam and the Red Gundam. Outside the colors, the main difference between these two are likely the accessories as the Red Gundam should becoming with those large Alpha Psycommu bits. And I have no idea how this figure is going to support the weight of those massive things.
Seeing how these things are like 10 times the price of the HG kits, I’ll likely go with the building route though again, if you have the means but not the time, then this is a definite option.

Going on a little bit of a tangent, and still not directly confirmed, there are Japanese outlets saying that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will premiere this April, which makes sense given that I don’t think they will be releasing the compilation movie if it’s like more than 6 months out. And based on the timing of the newly-announced merchandise, it does make sense.
