Breaking the Need for ‘SEED’

As January came in, my goal was to catch up on my backlog and build Gundam SEED series kits as lead up to Gundam SEED FREEDOM and the release of HGCE Rising Freedom Gundam. With both done, I’d like to take a quick look at what I have so far, and how I feel overall coming out of this personal goal.

Overall, I was satisfied on how these five kits came out. Not exactly perfect, nor the best, but I’m definitely delighted to put these out of the backlog and into my completed stack. These kits also reinforced how much Bandai Spirts has come with engineering and parts separation. All of those lead me to the HGCE Rising Freedom Gundam, which is a great kit, especially the main mobile suit. Because of the transformation, it has to have this busy backpack unit that provides unnecessary complexities to the build, and the largest use of stickers.

Out of the five here, I basically built two of the same design, two belonging to the same development genealogy, and one entirely different design. Because of this, I got tired of the whole SEED aesthetic — and with the movie still in full swing awaiting international release, I expect to be inundated with even more SEED.

That’s why for my next build, I’ve decided to go with these:

Universal Century quad-build! I’m tackling doubles of the HGUC Victory Two Gundam and HGUC Victory Two Assault Buster Gundam. I picked these primarily for the shelf space I’ll gain when I throw out the duplicate boxes. I did mention slowing down on the dual builds, not to mention quad-builds but hear me out.

To those unfamiliar, the HGUC V2 Assault Buster kit provides parts to build one of the three V2 Gundam upgrades, and you’ll need some disassembly to convert one to the other. And if you know me, I don’t like disassembly for transformation, or conversion in this case. So, I’ll just build four base V2 Gundams with one as the vanilla and the other three for the Assault, Buster, and Assault Buster configurations

I’ll probably start these within the week, although I can’t say when I’ll finish them. Hopefully it goes as smooth as the HGUC Phantom Gundam quad-build last year.
