I’m Not Calling It “Load” Astray: HGCE Lord Astray Ω

Let’s just get this out of the way. Ever since they introduced its Gundam Build variant, the Load Astray Double Rebake, I think I’m not the only one who thought that this is a dumb way to translate what we initially thought as the “Lord Astray” — which is a much cooler and more intimidating name. That sentiment is further exasperated when Premium Bandai announced this web exclusive kit. Is this Bandai Spirits not wanting to put religious connotations to their model kits? But then again, we have this thing called the God Gundam, so… Anyway!

Bandai Spirits has been doing this thing recently of first releasing Gundam Build variants of existing mobile suit designs before the original. That was the case for the HGCE Infinite Justice Gundam and what would be the HGAC Gundam Deathscythe Hell. The same can now be said with the Lord Astray Ω (refer to my opening rant above), which became the Load Astray Double Rebake in Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE.

This mobile suit appears in the manga Gundam SEED Astray: Princess of the Sky and like the dozens of Astray manga before it, I have no idea of its story. But every once in a while, we get some amazing designs which aren’t an indicator of getting model kits (I’m still hoping for a Delta Astray kit mind you). Fortunately, that isn’t the case for the Lord Astray Ω, which really looks awesome without the Double Rebake parts.

The solicitations then mention how the red stripes on the arms and legs use metallic injection molding. Not sure if this meant chrome or something like titanium finish or something else different. But at least we don’t need to paint those in. In contrast, marking seals would be needed for those red patterns on the hands and shoulder armors.

A prominent feature of the Lord Astray Ω is the huge Lord Longsword which is reminiscent of the Tactical Arms used by the Blue Frame and its variations. It can be stored at the back of the mobile suit with a backpack mount that I guess can also act as flight stabilizers, I guess.

The Lord Longsword can also split into halves for dual wielding while the central section becomes a whip which appears to be made from some flexible material.

I can’t remember the last time I built an Astray kit so I’m looking forward to getting this guy. Do note this is a Premium Bandai exclusive so hop on to your official storefronts, or your preferred middleman service to secure your copy.
