I can’t believe it took me this long to finally build a Unicorn Gundam kit. For context, the Unicorn Gundam has been one of the mascots of the franchise, dating back to the first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn in 2007. It got its first representation in 1/144 scale with the double HGUC releases of the Destroy Mode as HGUC #100 and Unicorn Mode as HGUC #101. And the rest is history.
After deciding which shade of panel line wash to use for all the channels and details on this kit, I went ahead with the actual build.
Given the simple, and borderline boring, colors of the Unicorn Gundam in Unicorn Mode, building the kit was mostly straightforward. There were some areas needing more accurate colors, like those small gray recesses on the legs, but you can very much do a straight build without issues.
Most of the color correction I did were for the shield. Besides painting the reverse side in gray, the deactivated Psycho-Frame parts in the shield also needs to be painted. The manual recommends some light shade of gray, but I’m going with gunmetal since I’m planning to paint the Psycho-Frame parts for the Destroy Mode kit in metallic red. Speaking of which, I will immediately follow up this guy with the HGUC Unicorn Gundam [Destroy Mode] since it won’t make sense to just build this “half.”
