2019 Best in Class: HGCE Destiny Gundam – Work in Progress #1

For the last several weeks, I’ve been “indulging” myself in building old HG Gundam SEED kits in succession. Starting with the Destiny Gundam, the Aile Strike Gundam, and most recently the Freedom Gundam. You can certainly say that I’ve grown accustomed to the expectations when building these older kits, but I do want something modern to act as palette cleanser. And there’s only one High Grade that comes to mind as far as Gundam SEED series kits go.

Coming into full circle from where I kicked things off with these Gundam SEED builds, I’m once again back with the Destiny Gundam. This time around, it’s the 2019 HGCE Destiny Gundam, which is considered by many as the best HG kit at the time of release. And just with the parts I’ve built so far, I can attest to these claims.

From a design and color separation standpoint, the Destiny benefits for having less pinstripes sans the pastel-colored ones on the torso. This translates to less dependency on color-correcting stickers, especially when compared to newer releases like the HGCE Rising Freedom Gundam which, at the time of posting, has its rather large sticker sheet leaked. The joints were also engineered to maximize articulation and I can already see it just from building these shoulder connectors.

That said, I have identified areas that still needed painting, but I don’t think it would be as much effort as the last three kits I’ve built. Once I complete this kit, I will probably take a break, or build something easier, until my copy of the HGCE Rising Freedom Gundam arrives.

Speaking of which, Bandai Spirits’ plamodel idol group LINKL PLANET has posted an unboxing of both Rising Freedom and Immortal Justice on their YouTube channel. You can check it down below for your viewing pleasure.
