Box Art Extravaganza: December 2021

As one song you’ll often hear during this season would say, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.” That also translates to not-so-wonderful time for our wallets. In any case, these are some of the box arts for upcoming (or already released) kits for December 2021, in no particular order.

First is a kit that’s kind of interesting, but not that interesting for me to click the buy button. This is MODEROID Dynazenon from SSSS.Dynazenon and is another addition to the steadily becoming popular trend of super robots getting modern model kits. Most of them have great poseability and proportions while retaining all their transformation or combination gimmicks. That said, they also have designs that would really require painting or extensive use of color-correcting seals to look accurate, and Dynazenon over here is no exception.

That said, this is still a great kit and is possibly their better attempt at doing Dynazenon. To those unfamiliar, this is Good Smile Company’s second Dynazenon release, with the first being THE GATTAI DX version. It was an okay DX set but it had issues based on the reviews I’ve seen. So, those who wanted a better experience may get this guy, especially since it’s cheaper. You can check out the out-of-box preview from Good Smile Company below if you’re still on the fence on getting this kit.

Next on our list is a kit that, to be completely honest, I really forgot. Getting released this December is the second High Grade kit from the Super Robot Wars OG games, the HG Alteisen and its red Revolving Stake shooting glory. I was initially excited with the HG Cybaster but after seeing those huge hollow parts on the feet, that excitement went away. I’m hoping we won’t get the same deal with this kit. On a related note, I also remember getting the Kotobukiya Alteisen, or one of its variants previously. Much like my other kits, it’s still in the backlog but it would be interesting to do a dual build to see how different these two would be. But then again, that would be an unfair comparison to the Kotobukiya kit given it’s a much older release.

Last on this list, at least for the time being, is also another kit I forgot. While everyone, myself included, is waiting for the Entry Grade Strike Gundam, Bandai Spirits is also releasing the follow up to the well-received Entry Grade RX-78-2 Gundam. Being an Entry Grade kit meant it had to skip on some of the other accessories associated with the grandaddy, like the Hyper Bazooka or beam effect parts. With this Full Weapon Set, you’ll be able to build a fully decked out Entry Grade Gundam. Outside of the Beam Rifle, Beam Saber handles, and shield, this set also comes with Beam Saber effect parts, Hyper Bazooka, Hyper Javelin, and the Gundam Hammer. Do note that this is still an Entry Grade kit, so for the Hyper Javelin, you’ll need to paint the beam effects while for the Gundam Hammer, the chain piece is a solid plastic piece.
