5th Anniversary Special: MODEROID Kuromukuro

September 2021 marks the 5th anniversary for the broadcast conclusion of Kuromukuro, an anime from P.A. Works created for the company’s 15th anniversary. It tells the story of high school student Yukina Shirahane and Kennosuke Tokisada Ouma, born in the Sengoku period and reawakened in modern-day Japan, as they pilot the Kuromukuro (literally “Black Relic”) against an extraterrestrial force. I was actually interested in the plot and managed to watch a couple of episodes in before I stopped for some reason.

But I guess I now have reasons to pick up the series once more as Good Smile Company has revealed a MODEROID kit in development as part of the series’ 5th anniversary. In fact, you can see in the image above how the kit and its articulation are engineered as the Kuromukuro is quite an agile machine.

Speaking of released images, they also have one of the kit as a gray prototype placed beside the animation model and it looks very similar, especially with its unique angles and elbow/knee joint assemblies. The kit is mostly red and black so color accuracy isn’t that much of an issue though there are many yellow dots and some head unit details that would either be pre-painted or paint you need to apply.

Regardless, the kit looks great and I’m looking forward to more details as they come by. And as mentioned, I’ll probably pick up this series once again as it’s available worldwide on Netflix.
