By my last count, five mecha titles are premiering this October, which is totally awesome! And to kick this literal extravaganza, Bandai Spirits is releasing the first HG kit from the new series Kyoukai Senki, more specifically from the side story Kyoukai Senki: Frost Flower.
Releasing a kit from the side story first before the main series mecha ain’t something new for Bandai Sprits. That said, if my memory serves me right, the last time they did this was back in 2002 in the Gundam SEED 1/144 scale collection series (i.e., the cheap kits) where the first releases were the Gundam Astray Red / Blue Frames respectively.
For the box art itself, they’re going for a more simple style with the minimalist name bar with no unnecessary lower thirds background. On the left side is a panel with the series logo and illustration of the lead machine, something very similar to the HG IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS packaging style. Then there’s Byakuchi itself which was also designed by Ken Okuyama Designs. It believe it has more weapons than the Kenbu from the main series, with its load out including a quad guided missile launcher, a multi-barrel portable machine gun, a general purpose portable shield, and a weapons rack for even more armaments.
This kit would basically set the precedent of how these Kyoukai Senki High Grades would be so I’ll definitely check out early kit reviews of it. Kyoukai Senki is set to premiere on October 5.
