During the same event where Mobile Suit Gundam THE WITCH FROM MERCURY was announced, several other Gundam projects were revealed as well. This includes the fourth life-sized Gundam statue that will be constructed. Yes, we now have four of these things. Japan could totally conquer the world if these were actually functioning mobile suits, but I digress.
Just when I thought the next life-sized Gundam would be on America, they decided to build it on Mitsui Shopping Park, Lalaport Fukuoka. And as seen here, it will be the RX-93 Nu Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. Similar to Gundam Factory Yokohama, this ain’t the vanilla version of the Nu Gundam outside the new markings and two-tone colors.
This is the RX-93ff Nu Gundam and it’s basically the same Nu Gundam but with just a single Fin Funnel, a long range Fin Funnel. They probably figured how next to impossible it would be to build the actual Fin Funnels but they still want to have it as the Nu Gundam’s signature weapon. A single long range Fin Funnel would be attached to the statue and would also act as a support stand.
The statue will be part of Gundam Park Fukuoka, an attraction where the current Gundam Base Fukuoka would expand to feature more places to visit. Expect to have the statue to be completed in Spring 2022.
