There have been numerous mecha musume kits in the market today that companies have to think of a new concept beyond the usual formula of girls in mechanized armor. One concept to come out of this are girls that come with vehicles that become the mechanized armor or something similar. I believe this is the concept behind Hemoxian’s new Rusted Brier line, at least based on their first release.
Aoshima’s Variable Fighter Girls (or VFG) line comes to mind, and rightfully so given the similarities.
The set consists of two components, and we’ll first take a look at the RTP-10A Variable High-Speed Tactical Aircraft. The VFG parallels don’t stop as this machine can convert from a fighter aircraft, to a humanoid machine, and an in-between mode which is very much its version of the Gerwalk mode.
Besides the features mentioned earlier, this kit by itself is quite impressive with all the rivets and sculpted detail commonly seen in World War I bombers. Not only does it look agile as an aircraft, but it’s also very articulated when it transforms into its humanoid form. The head unit design does remind me of the robot from Appleseed.
At 1/12 scale, the RTP-10A stands at 195mm tall, and the conversion to/from humanoid to flight modes are done via replacement parts.
The “bi-pla” or bishoujo plamo component of this set comes with the similarly scaled Rhande Roskinen. That’s everything I can tell about this character given the lack of an accompanying lore, though the first production run of this kit will come with setting materials as a bonus.
I haven’t built any Hemoxian kits, much more their non-mecha kits, but Rhande does look very promising with her range of articulation and expression as it comes with multiple face parts. In fact, it comes with six pre-painted and another six blank face parts. There’s also a slew of weapons and accessories that come with this set that she can use to her heart’s content.
Much like the RTP-10A, Rhande also has multiple forms. Seen above is her lightly-armored form, and then you can bolt on aircraft parts to her, Strike Witches style.
Yes, Strike Witches style indeed. I wanted to say that these parts are dedicated to the heavily armored form of Rhande and aren’t taken from the RTP-10A. The solicitations do mention replacement arms and legs so these might be it. If Rhande has this crazy armored form, why would you still need the RTP-10A?
Well, let’s talk about the combination of all these parts.
Technically, the RTP-10A can’t convert into its flight form without the parts from the Rhande’s heavily armored form. When combined, the RTP-10A becomes a vehicle that Rhande can pilot and do their usual damage dealing spree.
I’m not exactly sure on the mechanisms of putting your propeller at the back, but it does look cool. Rhande even gains a new helmet piece, complete with cat ears and the same optics as RTP-10A.
And then, there’s the Gerwalk.
There’s no way this thing could stand up, but it looks really awesome, and would give the VFG kits a run for their money. Especially after reading though some of the issues with those kits.
I initially wanted to tag this under a curiosity piece, but the more I check it out, the more I’m leaning towards pulling the pre-order trigger. I do have several mecha musume kits in the backlog and this one would just add another box. But looks really cool and the concept seems to be a better implementation of the VFG kits.
