It seems like every time I plan a trip to Japan towards the end of the year, Volks releases a new 1/144 scale IMS kit I’ll gladly pick up upon arriving. This year, they have a new variation of the L.E.D. Mirage V3 to go along The Knight of Gold released last year. This is the IMS 1/144 L.E.D. Mirage V3 =Delta Berunn 3007= version.
This is a variation of the IMS L.E.D. Mirage V3 [Light Armament Type] kit released in 2023, which only included a pair of swords and a shield for weapons, hence the name. This version is meant to evoke the configuration seen in Delta Berunn during year 3007 of the Star Cluster Calendar.
The primary difference between these two kits are with the weapons and accessories.
For starters, let’s talk about the Ceremonial Lance. You will definitely need shelf space to display this kit thanks to the 448mm long lance. Despite the length, the kit appears to hold it without issues or the need of an external support.
Then there’s the double veil, which are a pair of shields mounted on the shoulders via specialized armatures. Note that these shields are different from those included with the Lightly Armored version. They are connected via ball joints so they should have enough movement to prevent any hindrance in articulation, at least in concept.
The solicitation also mentions how the large head fin is actually a counterweight which extends to the back. This configuration is supposedly seen among units not equipped with the Inferno Napalm.
Much like previous L.E.D. Mirage kits, this one comes with translucent white plastic for the outer armor and clear red for the armor parts. I’m not the biggest fan of these personally and I might lean towards painting them in more solid colors. But I’ll cross that bridge when I build these kits, which should be sooner than later.
This is the point where I want to speculate the next kit to get an IMS 1/144 scale release. Volks’ tends to do the larger 1/100 scale versions first and then they’ll probably re-engineer those to fit the smaller 1/144 scale. I am interested in seeing 1/144 versions of either the Schpertor K.O.G. or the L.E.D. Mirage Pre-production Model. For now, I have to secure getting this guy when I return to Japan in November.
