Picking up from my last build update, I am still working on the HG Red Gundam Type G-3 and it’s going much better than I expected. I was finally able to build the base mobile suit and I do like how the repaint turned out.

Compared to the upper body and arms, there’s comparatively less masking needed for the hips and legs, although you have to note of the yellow stripes on the thighs as those are really small sections. Fortunately for me, the aftermarket masking sheet I purchased still does wonders and has really made masking much easier.
But I spoke too soon.

Remember those rather large red bits? I still need to repaint them and as you can see above, the masking sheet I got came with two sheets. The second one is dedicated mostly to these bits.
You build these things in two layers. First is the inner sphere which should be yellow, and god knows why they molded it in gray. Then there’s the outer shell which I will paint in the same shade of light gray as the rest. But you have to first paint in darker gray since the outlines of the yellow bits are supposed to be in dark gray. And then you will need to cover these areas with the masking sheet before painting the rest of the bits in that lighter gray. Just sticking the masks alone took an hour.
In any case, my next update should be the the final build update for this kit. As you can see above, I am planning to build the HG White Gundam next, and I don’t think that kit would require as much masking as this guy. I just hope I’m not speaking too soon.
