GQuuuuuuX Made Me Do IT! HGUC RX-78-2 Gundam (2015) Double Build – Work in Progress #1

Spoilers ahead! In case you’re not caught up with the penultimate episode of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, it ended with the RX-78-2 Gundam appearing out of the Zeknova. There’s discussion whether this is the “Prime” Universal Century RX-78-2 Gundam, but regardless, a version is entering the GQuuuuuuX timeline and it might be the final boss for the series.

After the episode was released, the demand for the RX-78-2 Gundam spiked and fortunately for me, I do have a couple of the HGUC kits from 2015. I was initially thinking of building the HG 00 Raiser, but I do want to join the party so that build will have to wait.

Between the 2015 (or “revive”) HGUC and the Entry Grade, I still prefer the former despite the latter having slightly better parts separation as the joints tend to remain tight despite years following completion. Do note that this isn’t my first time building this kit as I’ve completed the G-3 Gundam version almost a decade ago.

I also mentioned that this is going to be a double build, and here’s why.

The photo above is, I think, from Chara Hobby 2014 and is meant to promote the Builders Parts HD MS Armor 01 set. It’s essentially armor panels for customizing your kits. The build seen here is most likely a quick work to attach the armor panels on the RG RX-78-2 Gundam, but I think it looks really good. So much so that I wanted to replicate as a sort of custom, though I’m just ripping off an idea from the hobby show display.

This will come later but for now, I’ll just finish the vanilla Gundam in time for the GQuuuuuuX finale this week.

Thoughts?
