I was finally able to watch Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- a couple of months after the Japanese theatrical release, and a month before the series starts in TV and streaming. I’m also writing my unsolicited thoughts on the film, which I hope will be up by this week. Coming out of the theater, what I immediately wanted to do was finish the HG GQuuuuuuX, or it’s pseudo-official name, Gundam QuuuuuuX. And so, I did, mostly.

Much like the rest of the kit, almost all of the orange bits you’ll see on the lower legs, sans that one part at the back, would need paint to be color accurate. These include the cylindrical detail inside the lower leg and the orange bits on the oddly-shaped feet. I also spent most of my time applying the decals for all the red pinstripes. You could use the marking stickers that come with the kit, but these pinstripes, specifically the small ones, need to be wrapped around very small plastic parts, and I expect the stickers to immediately peel off after a short time.
That’s not saying using decals is easier, I had to bust out my combo of Mr. Mark Setter and Mr. Mark Softer bottles to make sure they stick into place. Fortunately, they do and I don’t think I should be worrying about them peeling off soon, especially after a good layer of clear top coat.
With the main mobile suit done, I can now proceed to the masking hell that is the accessories. I’ve started yesterday with the white sections of the Core Fighter and it’s not as hard as I imagined, though there’s multiples of thin white paint and paint cleanup with those parts. Let’s see if I make it to the back section of the shield this week.
