Real Grade Details on a High Grade: HG Gundam EX – Work in Progress #2

I skipped making any progress on the HG Gundam EX last week due to a variety of reasons, mainly just me dropping to sleep immediately after getting home. But now that I’ve got a good balance of time and sleep, I made it a point to make some progress on this kit. And progress I sure made.

The thing with this kit, and many have said this in their reviews, is that despite being a High Grade, the amount of sculpted details and color work basically matches those of a Real Grade. Chief among these are the multiple shades of gray that I had to check the manual every now and then to see if I missed any paint application. That said, the build isn’t really complex, and it actually looks great out of the box. So unless you’re a stickler to color accuracy, or at least to an extent like me, then you will need to bust out some paints.

Speaking of which, I only need to build the triple beam saber rack, beam rifle, and the shield. But I’m not looking forward to building the shield due to the masking needed on its back side. But I’ll just think of the masking work as preparation for what I’ll eventually do once I build the HG GQuuuuuuX as that kit requires even more masking.

Thoughts?
