We are down to the last quarter of 2024 and around October is when most of the recent Gundam series had their premieres. The same is true with GUNDAM Reconguista in G which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024. To celebrate this, along with the completion of the compilation movie versions, The Gundam Base is releasing a slightly retooled version of the HG G-Self Perfect Pack as it appeared in the film series. And yes, they’ve now dropped the “Gundam” from the name as intended.
The HG Reconguista in G line was notorious for its extensive use of color-correcting stickers for a good number of kits, and the G-Self Perfect Pack is no exception. Unfortunately, this slighly retooled kit is still dependent on color-correcting stickers, but some of them are now plastic stickers for added depth. It also uses the same type of marking stickers from the HG 1/100 Macross kits though if you can paint the kit, then I suggest you go that route.
As for the updates they made for this reissue, closer inspection shows that the torso, head, and shoulder armors are new parts, for sort of better parts separation, screen accuracy, and articulation. While these won’t be game-changing updates, many are already considering these to be a 1.5 of the original.
Of course, the Perfect Pack is still able to replicate its primary feature, being an amalgamation of all the mission-specific packs into one unit. Though for this kit, it can only replicate the Assault and Reflector Packs with the configurations seen above. And you will definitely need a display stand to put this kit in various poses.
Here’s everything that comes with this kit, and outside the new display stand, and the updated parts, this should be more or less the same as the original release. I don’t think I’ll track one on the secondary market, but I think I’ll probably do because of the updated parts and how the movie continuity is sort of different from what was shown in the series 10 years ago.
