Three’s a Company: HGUC V2 Gundam – Work in Progress #3

Going back to my HGUC V2 Gundam quad-build, I’m now three quarters of the way as I’ve more or less completed third variation of this mobile suit, the Victory Two Assault Gundam. Compared to the V2 Buster, this one requires more detailing with the gold armor parts and both of its primary accessories need significant paint for color accuracy.

For starters, I mentioned last time how I’ve decided to use the standard Tamiya gold color (i.e. TS-21) as it produces a gold finish that looks good in both gloss and matte finishes. I already painted all the additional armor bits for the Assault and Assault Buster configurations so those are taken care of.

The next bulleted items are the Mega Beam Rifle and Mega Beam Shield. The Mega Beam Rifle requires white on the top exhaust block and several gray spots on the main rifle. I also painted the inner parts of the barrel with gray even though the instructions don’t specifically mention it. As for the Mega Beam Shield, it only comes in blue and white plastic, so everything else needs to be painted. That said, I found masking the parts of the Mega Beam Shield much easier than the Mega Beam Rifle.

Having built both the V2 Buster and V2 Assault, I believe I can finish the V2 Assault Buster much faster as it’s ultimately just the previous two combined in a single mobile suit. Once done, this would bring the total number of kits I’ve built in the first quarter of 2024 to nine, and the quarter’s not even done yet.

Thoughts?
