I Need to Cleanse my Palette: HG Freedom Gundam – Completed Build

For the last three weeks, I’ve been on this quest of building old HG Gundam SEED kits as lead up to Gundam SEED FREEDOM. And it’s been an experience mostly needing to paint a lot of missing colors. I just completed the HG Freedom Gundam, which I initially thought would be easier than the HG Aile Strike Gundam, the latter of which I held back on building for a good while.

This image is a good example of what I’m pertaining to. Gundam SEED mobile suit designs often have lots of colors and unfortunately, these old HG Gundam SEED kits don’t have the best parts separation. As a result, many of these kits rely on color-correcting stickers or none and the building will just have to paint them. In the HG Freedom’s case, the beam cannons would require several rounds of masking and painting as these parts just come in white.

That said, I went through the whole thing to finally get this kit done. At this point, I’ve finally built the HG Gundam SEED versions of the Aile Strike, Freedom, Force Impulse, Destiny, and Strike Freedom so I’ve finally completed the main Gundam line up. I still have Providence, Legend, the Astray, and Stargazer kits in the backlog, but those are reserved for another time.

For the next kit I’ll build, it will still from the Gundam SEED series, but to cleanse my palette from these older kits, I will go straight into the HGCE line. Specifically, the HGCE Destiny Gundam which many called as one of the best kits released during its time.
