Wasn’t as Easy as I Thought: HG Freedom Gundam – Work in Progress #1

Following the completion of my HG Aile Strike Gundam, there’s no question that I’ll follow it up with the HG Freedom Gundam, all part of my all-SEED January builds. I also thought it would be an easier build than the Aile Strike based on very fuzzy memories from 20 or so years ago. Spoiler, I was wrong.

Yes, the topcoat on the right waist-mounted rail cannon frosted. No, I won’t redo it.

While both kits definitely needed painting thanks to the rampant color inaccuracy of the original High Grade GUNDAM SEED line, the Aile Strike has a relatively simpler color layout compared to the Freedom. The latter had stripes and everything that would require several sessions of masking on the same part. From the waist rail cannons to the beam rifle to the shoulder beam cannons and even the shield.

At least I already have the main mobile suit done. I just need to complete painting on the shoulder beam cannons, the shield, and the wing binders. I’m targeting to complete this guy hopefully by next week, after which I can finally jump to a more modern Gundam SEED series kit.

Thoughts?
