The Moon is Definitely Out: HGUC Moon Gundam – Work in Progress #1

A couple of weeks ago, Bandai Namco finally decided to release one of the most requested Gundam games globally, Mobile Suit Gundam U.C. Engage. Yes, I pre-registered and got all the bonuses as part of it. To coincide with this launch, I decided to build a model kit often linked to this game, and no, I’m not talking about Engage Zero.

Joining the other moon themed Gundams like Gundam X, Gundam Double X, and ∀ Gundam.

I’m talking about the HGUC Moon Gundam, considered by many as the best High Grade back in 2018. It also made its animation debut as part of an event within U.C. Engage though it’s yet to be released in the global version of the game. This kit is notable for its absence of polycaps and RG-levels of detail meant to go along with the RG Sazabi. To those unfamiliar, the Moon Gundam was built using a floating Gundam head connected to the body of the Varguil, an experimental mobile suit used during the development of the Sazabi.

I’ve just built the torso and head as seen here and at the time of release, it is worthy to be called the best HG kit. It does have tough competition when compared to kits released recently, like those from the High Grade THE WITCH FROM MERCURY line, but the Moon Gundam definitely has strong points, including the absence of c-clips. It also doesn’t use any color-correcting stickers, even on the optics which are actual green plastic. Though the head would definitely need some painting, especially those green trims, gray sections on the side, and red strips on the rear blade antennas. You’ll also need to paint all those yellow bits at the ends of the Psycho Plates, all eight of them.

This kit is also not part of any double or dual builds so it will be on a more relaxed pace. Though I still intend to finish this in the next couple of weeks as I am finally going again to Japan towards the end of the month. And I wouldn’t want to leave any unfinished kits by then. So, like my other builds, I’ll just chug along with this one and complete it at my usual pace.
