Let’s Build “Space Oomfie!” HG Gundam Aerial Rebuild – Work in Progress #1

I just knew this very recently, especially after the North American Gundam.Info Twitter account made this meme official, sort of. For some reason, the international Witch from Mercury fandom refers to Eri as “space oomfie” for some reason. I don’t really get it but it’s funny, and so I’m going to refer to the Aerial Rebuild over here as the same since.

With the hype surrounding both the Schwarzette and the Calibarn, I decided to trim my Gundam the Witch from Mercury backlog by building the HG Gundam Aerial Rebuild along with the Mirasoul Flight Unit. It’s sort of a double build but I’m primarily building the Aerial Rebuild first. It’s pretty straight-forward and as far as the torso section is concerned, there’s not much paint correction needed outside of some black areas.

Then yesterday, I went on to build both arms and we’re basically at the same point when I start making these work-in-progress posts. Contruction of the arms are the same with the vanilla Aerial where you have the internal frame of the upper arm section sandwiched between the side armor pieces while the forearms are your typical HG construction. The Aerial Rebuild shoulder armor has a black strip with a green sensor instead of a red shell unit like in the Aerial. The whole strip is done by color correcting stickers, but I decided to paint it in black and cut out the metallic green LED from the sticker sheet.

For sections needing paint, the Aerial Rebuild has much less compared to the Aerial, and I can only see the vent-like details in the feet needing gray paint. And of course, some of the GUND-Bit/Bit Staves that make up the shield/Escutcheon. I’m hoping to complete this kit this week in the hopes that I make it to the first production run of the HG Gundam Calibarn and I’ll have it, along with the HG Gundam Schwarzette and others, shipped from the HobbyLink Japan private warehouse.
