Whenever Good Smile Company, via their Good Mecha Smile sub brand, does these Mecha Smile Impact online events, they’re basically announcing years of planned releases. So, while we don’t know when exactly these would translate to model kits, we are guaranteed that they will become model kits.

Such is the case for the KG-6 Sleipnir and KG-7 Areion, both coming from ALDNOAH.ZERO, a series which had quite the discussion when it aired in 2014. Whatever your opinions of the story may be, you can’t deny how good the mechanical designs are. And these include these two Kataphrakt units, which is what the humanoid machines from the United Nations of Earth are called.
While the Areion is the mass production model, the Sleipnir and its orange color scheme, is a training unit preferred to be used by our main protagonist Kaizuka Inaho. It ultimately gets upgraded with a crazier configuration towards the end, but that’s not what this model kit is representing.

MODEROID Sleipnir stands at 150mm, and while it’s technically non-scale, it would still fit among other similarly-sized kits in my collection. Color separation is also what you’d expect from a MODEROID release, especially for a design with a limited color palette. Waterslide decals are also included for all the white markings, as well as pre-painted parts for those who prefer things right out of the box.

Sleipnir is more of a general purpose machine with several weapons ranging from close combat to ranged. These include a long rifle with deployable bipod, submachine gun, handgun, and knife. You can also see from the above shot how the Sleipnir is able to pull deep knee bends for those dynamic poses.

Probably the most iconic feature of this machine is the pair of leg stabilizer units that you can configure into whichever forms via the multiple axis joints or with the included replacement parts. Seeing these configurations definitely makes me look forward to whenever they decide to release its upgraded form as seen in towards the end of season 2.

As the Sleipnir is a training unit, the mass production version actually is the KG-7 Areion, which I believe is primarily the same kit as the Sleipnir with the obvious color differences and a different pair of leg stabilizers.
If I recall correctly, the only way to get the Sleipnir in this scale is via the Variable Action figure from Megahouse, and we all know how the QC of those figures go. So, I definitely appreciate the option to build it yourself via this MODEROID kit. I’m hoping we get more machines from ALDNOAH.ZERO, especially the Martian Kataphrakts and their more unique designs.
