During the Shizouka Hobby Show last May, Bandai Spirits announced an upcoming HG Huckebein kit as part of their Super Robot Wars OG lineup. There was a little confusion on which version this would be since everyone was expecting the purple variant given the previous Mk-II and Mk-III releases. But they decided to go ahead with the version from The 4th Super Robot Wars, and we only got that one illustration for the longest time in Bandai Hobby’s official website.

With the kit’s release next weekend, both the packaging and solicitation photos of the actual kit were finally released, giving us a better idea of what to expect. Super Robot Wars supervisor Takanobu Terada made notes of what this version is exactly and you can check this post for the details.

Based on those notes, the Super Robot Wars OG Huckebein we’ll likely get later won’t just be a simple recolor of this guy. The overall design has more curvatures and less angular than the OG version, besides more nuances that would be cumbersome to mention. But regardless, this kit does capture the design of the original quite well, and that light blue color is really growing on me.

This Huckebein is mainly known for its use of the massive Black Hole Cannon, and this kit comes with it, though its mass would require the use of an included display stand for support. Looks like I’ll have to play hoops if I want to take photos of this guy using this cannon without the stand being seen.

The other weapons included are the Leap Slasher which is like a beam frisbee and can be supported by the same display stand for the Black Hole Cannon, as well as a couple of Roche Sabers with effect parts.

To be honest, I’m not sure why Bandai Spirits went first with The 4th Super Robot Wars version of the Huckebein instead of the version from Original Generations. I guess it’s a case of the retool/recolor being first than the original as the OG version would definitely be more popular, and if that came out first, then this version might get fewer purchases.
So I, again, believe that the OG Huckebein would be a matter of when rather than if. But that’s not saying this one is bad, it actually looks really good.
