It’s Already 20 Years! CODE GEASS Project “To 20th” Announcements

I still remember everyone talking about Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion for its charming characters, political machinations, and greately-choreographed mecha fights. And all of that was already twenty years ago! Feeling really old aside, they recently held the CODE GEASS Project “To 20th” event and included several announcements.

I will only delve into a couple of these reveals but I do want to mention the New Mobile Report Gundam Wing ✕ Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion crossover manga from Tomofumi Ogasawara. To be honest, I’m not sure how this would work, but as with most crossovers, it’s better to turn off your brains and just enjoy the thing.

Next would be Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, which I’ve managed to watch the first half back in 2023. We are getting new High Grade kits from this series and these might be great reasons to finally finish watching it.

First is the HG UZZ-001s Zi-Apollo as piloted by Ash Phoenix. It’s a custom seventh generation Knightmare Frame and if you’ve seen the series, then you know how an awesome machine this is.

We are also getting an HG UZZ-001m Zi-Artemis, which is in turn piloted by Rozé (or Sakuya Sumeragi). It’s kind of like a mobile armor that docks with the Zi-Apollo to form the UZZ-001 Zi-Ortygia. And there’s no way that thing would stand without the assistance of one or two display stands.

Rozé of the Recapture is slated to premiere in Japanese television in 2026, so the announcements of these kits would make sense. Not to mention being much cheaper alternatives than the Metal Robot Spirits version which was released in January 2025. These announcements also support with my decision to move ahead with Code Geass model kits instead of Tamashii Nations figures due to reasons I’ve already mentioned.

Lastly, we have what I believe would be the biggest shift of direction the franchise has had so far, at least based on its visuals.

The next animated entry in the franchise is Code Geass: Hoshi Oi no Aspar (or Code Geass: Aspar the Star Chaser as it’s currently referred to in English). We will delve into the initial staff announcements in a bit but the immediate difference I’ve noticed is the different typeface used in the logo. And then the characters, which obviously don’t look like designed by CLAMP, which is confirmed by the initial staff credits being provided as follows.

  • Director: Kazuya Nomura (Robotics; Notes, Moriarty the Patriot)
  • Series Composition: Mado Nozaki (Another World, Kado: The Right Answer)
  • Character Design: Rolua (Yūsha Party kara Tsuihō Saretakedo, Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury end-card illustrations)
  • “Agarmatha” Design: Yoshi

I’m not so sure what “Agarmatha” is but I guess that’s the Knightmare Frame-looking thing we see the feet on the key visual above. Not much has been revealed as of yesterday’s announcement, but I am interested with how this series would be given they are going on a different direction.

Again, I might feel old about this, but it looks like 2026 will turn up to be an exciting year for Code Geass fans with the multiple projects being announced. Exhibitions celebrating this anniversary will also be held in Tokyo in September 2026, and Osaka in November 2026. Given my recent end-of-November trip to Japan, I would consider returning next year, hopefully in time for the Osaka exhibit. But let’s see.

In the meantime, you can check out the “To 20th” event video and Hoshi Oi no Aspar announcements via the videos below.
