In 2009, the Playstation 3 game Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C. 0081 was released and along with it, Bandai Spirits also released the HGUC Full Armor Gundam 7th. I’m not sure if other mobile suits from the game got kits in 2009 but we got a surprise in 2024 when the HGUC G-Line Standard Armor was released, considered by many as one of the better Premium Bandai exclusives. This likely sets the precedence for a kit apparently awaited by many, especially after the late RX-78 units already got kits, the HGUC Gundam G07/7th.
Bandai Spirits has released new kits based on old molds like the HGUC Tristan, but I don’t think that’s the case for this guy just based on how it looks. While it’s easier to assume this to be a derivative of the HGUC G-Line, I’m inclined to think this to be more of a derivative for the HGUC Gundam G04/G05/G06. Regardless of how this came about, it looks great from the solicitation photos seen here, especially with the more modern proportions and seemingly better color separation – “seemingly” being the operative term.
Thanks to the lack of bulky armor and modern engineering in general, the Gundam G07 is able to pull natural-looking poses like this without looking awkward.
Unlike the older Full Armor variant, this kit doesn’t have much in terms of accessories. In fact, it only comes with an extra weapon-holding and open hands/manipulators, shield, Beam Rifle, and Beam Saber effect parts. But the better engineering and articulation should provide more than ample display options.
For all intents and purposes, I think this kit is meant to complete the seven RX-78 units to which six were already released as of several years ago. Whether they can use this kit as a base unit for a possible Heavy Full Armor Gundam G07/7th is still up in the air. I’m not sure if the demand is there but that’s the type of kit that perfectly fits the Premium Bandai release model.
Regardless, I’m getting this guy.
