It’s been several years since the release of the last Reconguista in G compilation movie, and last year saw The Gundam Base Limited G-Self Perfect Pack, which is a version 1.25 at best of the original HG. The original was notorious for its lack of color separation and reliance on color-correcting seals so this limited retool became quite in demand. I even got my copy not too long ago.
So, it’s quite interesting that Bandai Spirits decided to capitalize on that demand with the HG G-Self [Atmospheric Pack & Space Pack] (Reconguista in G the Movie) set. It’s basically the HG G-Self “ver. 1.25” from the Perfect Pack release but with all the parts of the vanilla version along with the Atmospheric and Space Packs.
Based on the solicitation photos seen here, I’m not expecting any retooling done to both backpack units along with their respective accessories. Heck, you can even see that the beam rifle is just gray when it should have strips of white, blue, and yellow. They didn’t even paint the yellow and black vents on the shoulders. But at least painting those head details would be less of a chore.
I will probably pick this set up because of the novelty that this is mainly the Reconguista in G the Movie version of the vanilla G-Self. Fortunately, that should be easier this time around as it’s just a Premium Bandai exclusive and not limited to The Gundam Base. That being said, I’ll still build the original High Grades first to get better appreciation of the improvements this kit, and last year’s Perfect Pack release, had.
