Earlier this month, I started building the Best Mecha Collection RX-78-2 Gundam, the original version which required glue and paint. I was almost done with the kit, but I broke the right elbow joint. So, I ordered another copy from Buyee, along with a couple more exclusive kits, and they arrived last week.

Besides the right arm, I also needed to paint the shield, which wasn’t really much of an issue. My issue is the way the kit is supposed to hold the shield. It uses a bracket that relies on the plastic grip flexing a bit to put it in place. This means there’s a chance of the grip scratching the gray paint off the hands. I’ll probably let the paint on the hands cure some more to be more scratch resistant. But otherwise, the kit is basically done.
I still have several RX-78-2 Gundam kits to build, including both Real Grade versions, the 2015 “Revive” HGUC, and the 2024 revival version of this exact kit. I also have the old 1/144 scale Prototype Gundam from the original Mobile Suit Variation line. That kit still needs paint and glue, but the construction is a little bit different than this guy, so maybe I’ll put that next in the queue?
