And just like that, we’re now in the last quarter of 2024, which also means the Holiday Season is fast approaching with more opportunities to buy stuff. Let’s kick things off with what would be released within the hobby front in October.
Bang Brave Bang Bravern was a winter 2024 anime but for some reason, it took Good Smile Company a good six months or so before releasing the first kit from the series, and it’s not Bravern. Regardless, October will finally see the release of MODEROID M2 Exceed Rhino, the main grunt unit of the series. I personally collect titular or hero machines, but the Exceed Rhino would be a great piece to display along with the upcoming MODEROID Bravern kit. Not to mention it would help show scale between these machines.

As much as 2024 saw a slew of good to great kits, from those appearing in SEED FREEDOM to the RG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0, the one kit that got me really excited following its announcement is the Best Mecha Collection RX-78-2 Gundam (Revival). To those unaware, the first 1/144 scale kits from the original Mobile Suit Gundam was released under the Best Mecha Collection brand, which was like an umbrella line for Bandai Spirits’ smaller scale model kits back then. Following this, the most recent kit to be released under this line was General Franky from One Piece. And I’m not counting the Mecha Collection line of smaller vehicle/ship model kits, or their more generic Mechanic Collection line which included kits of various super robots or the original Code Geass 1/35 kits.
In any case, I’m excited about how this is a modernization of the old 1/144 Gundam with excellent color separation but keeps the proportions and articulation of the original. In fact, I just took out my unbuilt 1/144 Gundam out of storage in preparation, which I’ll detail in another post. I’m not holding my breath on it, but it would be cool if they give the same treatment to the other old kits released before they started branding them under grades, even for just the titular mobile suits.
