Things over at the super robot front have cooled down ever since Bang Brave Bang Bravern ended. But let’s not forget there’s another super robot show set to premiere this year. I’m talking about Grendizer U, a modern reimagining of UFO Robot Grendizer. They dropped several updates, including a new trailer and a couple of new Grendizer-like machines.
I’m getting Raiking and Balking vibes from Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu with these two. The official Grendizer U socials gave very brief descriptions regarding these two machines, with Zeoladizer and Zeola Spazer ‘commanding wind’, while Aquadizer and Aqua Spazer ‘commanding water’.
We also got a new trailer to the tune of the series opening theme by GLAY.

A man who fell into the desert has no memory. He was picked up by Koji Kabuto and named Daisuke. While the days seem to be peaceful, an unidentified phenomenon appears in the skies above the world’s major cities. It was Vega Star, a military force from a star system far away from Earth. Humanity is overrun by Vega, which is far superior to Earth’s weapons. Mazinger Z soars above the pool of water, Earth’s last hope faces an uphill battle against saucer beasts. Grendizer U will have Mitsuo Fukuda as the chief director, who just came from the box office success of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM. Fellow Gundam alumni Ichiro Okouchi of Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury will handle the story and script, and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto of Neon Genesis Evangelion will provide character designs. It is set to have its broadcast premiere in July 2024.
