Also, More Official Images: “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” Optimus Primal

It’s been a couple of months since the “mainline” Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Voyager class Optimus Prime has started getting into the hands of collectors, in one way or another. But given that we’re only a couple of months away, as of this post, from the movie, the figure is finally appearing on shelves, and we are also finally getting official images.

I know several reviews of this guy are already out there and you can check those for the full details. But at least here are official photos of what this guy is meant to look, since we all know those early copies got out in all sorts of ways.

One thing that those earlier copies got correctly is the apparent lack of paint on this figure, which is very evident in robot mode, especially on the legs. The majority of the legs are in that “Games Workshop” gray plastic and blue paint is only applied in the front sections. Speaking of blue paint, it appears here as metallic while you’re getting regular blue in the actual figure. Half of the torso section is also gray, which is also the same section with the most sculpted details. If you’re a customizer, you’ll have fun painting the various sections of this toy.

Something that’s different from these images to the actual copies of the toy are the arms, which appear here as gray pieces with truck mode panels on the side. On the actual figure, the arms are actually molded in red plastic as well so it wouldn’t be as drowned in gray plastic as these stock images.

Lastly, since this is “mainline” and not Studio Series, the size is relatively smaller than your average Voyager class figure. Think of it as a larger Deluxe, which might turn some off, but do note that this guy also costs less than your more collector-oriented Voyager class figure.

If you want a better rendition of this design, then you can definitely wait for the Studio Series version which will come under the Buzzworthy Bumblebee label for some reason. It will also be an extensive retool of SS-38 Optimus Prime from Bumblebee.
