More Chibi AIs for Giant War Machines: “Kyoukai Senki: Kokkou no Souki” Announced

I was actually deciding on whether to use a question or exclamation point for the post title and I don’t want to sound too pessimistic about this new series. But just to be transparent, I’m also not the most excited as I found the Kyoukai Senki or AMAIM Warrior on the Borderline to be an okay series but not the most engaging. (Note to self, write that review already!) In any case, they’ve released a teaser trailer and revealed the official title of this new series — Kyoukai Senki: Kyokko no Souki.

Before going to the actual teaser, I wanted to touch a couple of points. We first have what appears to be the main MAILeS or AMAIM unit for the series. It has a colder color palette with grays and blues, which contrasts Kenbu/Kenbu Zan’s reds and yellows. Looking at the staff credits, the mechanical designs are the usual suspects for modern mecha productions, most coming from Gundam the Witch from Mercury. Surprisingly, the site doesn’t list Ken Okuyama Design which was a huge selling point of the first series.

They also tease the Byakuchi, which is a unit that was initially exclusive to the side story Kyoukai Senki:Frost Flower. I do hope they explain some events from the side story for context.

Again, I’m mostly neutral with this franchise, but having a second series means the first did well enough. I’m hoping this one goes from okay to at least great. No premiere dates have been revealed outside of the teaser trailer, which you can watch below.
