Let’s travel back in time a little bit, during the time when End of Evangelion was fresh off theaters and you still remember that gorgeous, yet visceral, scene of EVA-02 engaging a horde of EVA Series units. Asuka seemed to be winning but we all know how that battle ended. Now imagine what if it ended differently, like EVA-02 and probably one of the EVA Series units had a love child? Now I know that’s gross if you really imagine it, but that’s the impression I got when I saw the prototype of the Evangalion Evolution Evangelion EURO-II Heurtebise figure back in winter Wonder Festival. And now we have the official solicitations to totally dispute that scenario I mentioned.
EVA EURO II, as I’ll call it from here onwards, comes from Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA, an alternate retelling of the original series. It’s constructed by NERV Germany from surplus parts of EVA-02, hence the similar looks. It’s piloted by this universe’s version of Hikari Hokari along with the Dummy Plug System.
The unit is designated with a French angel name, which translates to these massive, yet mechanically beautiful, wing binders on its back. As seen above, its two primary weapons are its cross spear and sword, both painted in a brilliant shade of silver and red accents for the cross spear.
On that note, the combination of a mostly lightly colored body and the few accents of grays and reds really pop and give this unit an unearthly appearance.
Here’s everything that comes with EVA EURO II, outside of the cross spear and sword, it comes with parts to mount those weapons on the EVA itself, replacement hands/manipulators, and a display stand which you’ll obviously need to prop up something with massive wings.
As much as Evangelion designs got crazier, especially as the Rebuild of Evangelion movies progressed and eventually concluded, it’s really nice to see those designs from Evangelion: ANIMA still get attention. It also gives me more credence to track the Evangelion Evolution Super Evangelion figure.
