Armored Core meets Monster Hunter? “Gundam Rogue Orbit” Revealed

Seemingly out of nowhere from Summer Game Fest 2026, we have a new Gundam game which aims to be, and as they put it–a daring new chapter in the Gundam saga, built as the perfect entry point for new players and a thrilling evolution for longtime fans. Introducing, Gundam Rogue Orbit. I’ll put the announcement trailer towards the end, but here are my unsolicited thoughts based on what we’ve seen.

The trailer opens in some sunflower field in a space-based facility where we see an attack from what appears to be a kaiju-looking entity.

It’s then repelled by a GM-looking mobile suit, only to be taken out by a much larger enemy.

To everyone complaining of aliens in Gundam. this isn’t the first time the franchise had them. Dating back to Gundam 00 -A Wakening of the Trailblazer- all the way to the ongoing Gundam Eight manga, we’ve been seeing more and more of similar stories.

This is also the part of the trailer where our new Gundam shows up, the Gundam Helix. I will talk more on the design later, but it is a very busy design just like the Gundam EX from Requiem for Vengeance. The head specifically has similarities with the Gundvölva from The Witch from Mercury. Gundam Helix uses a combination of melee combat with its large sword and a number of remote controlled bit-like weapons.

We’re also introduced to two characters, each having their own Haro. Piloting the Gundam Helix is our ace RE-X, you can’t have a sci-fi game without a sci-fi sounding name like “RE-X.” Then there’s this pink-haired girl we see monitoring the situation on this space-based facility.

The last part of the trailer shows actual gameplay, which also provides a better view of the Gundam Helix. I won’t talk about the actual graphics quality since I don’t intend on playing the game.

As a design meant for an anime or similar media, Gundam Helix has a lot of things going on, hence the parallels with Gundam EX. That said, I’m not the biggest fan of the monotonous colors, though we’ll lay over the Armored Core filter, then the color scheme makes sense. We also see the leg panels open up to reveal many thrusters, which tracks as Gundam Helix is supposedly a high-mobility mobile suit. If ever they release a High Grade of this thing, I would surely get one though.

As with most new Gundam announcements, fan reaction is generally mixed, though there’s not much to pick out from what was released. Given the 2027 release of Gundam Rogue Orbit, I’m expecting more details to drop in the next several months. Until then, we can just look at the announcement trailer below.
