Bulky is an Understatement: UA Zi-Kron – Work in Progress #2

At the time of posting, my two copies of the HG Gundam Zirius have arrived so I’m contemplating on whether to just finish the UA Zi-Kron or pivot to doing the double build. Contemplations aside, let’s quickly check where the build is.

This guy is bulky, and that is more obvious when you build the “skirt armor” pieces due to the sheer volume each has. Unlike most HG Gunpla where you have a fixed rear armor piece, a pair of side armors and a front armor piece you can split, you will need to build each of the skirt armor piece for the Zi-Kron.

The massive black armor pieces might look monotonous, but the aesthetic is broken up by the gold/copper pieces together with the white marking decals. I also decided to use light gray for panel lining to further bring out the details. The relatively simple colors also meant minimal painting needed outside of small shadow details.

Going back to that opening question, I might just complete this guy before opening another kit (or kits) to build since I’m only left with the legs and weapons for the Zi-Kron. I do have several Sheik Mainland kits on pre-order and following this build, I have an excellent idea of what to expect from them.

Thoughts?
