I’m not sure if this is something Tamashii Nations has mentioned previously, but along with their newest wave of solicitations and pre-orders, which include the Soul of Chogokin Voltes V from Voltes V: Legacy, is the iconic Chogokin Metal Gear Rex from Metal Gear Solid.
Before everything though, let me mention that despite not playing any of the games, this isn’t my first encounter with a physical representation of this design.

I previously commissioned local maker/builder Armament Factory to scratch build a non-scale Metal Gear REX that can look good along with my 1/144 scale Gunpla. It was back when 3D printers had yet to gain more mainstream usage and everything was done with styrene sheets and other plastic parts, painted to look like REX in some digital camouflage pattern.
I’m also well aware of the model kit versions Kotobukiya sold, which are much cheaper than the Chogokin version. But I just found them a little too large for my preference.

This brings me to this Chogokin version, and the first thing I checked at Tamashii Web is how large this figure is. With the legs fully extended, it stands at approximately 180mm, compared to the 220mm of the Kotobukiya model kit. Which means it should be shorter than a typical Master Grade when compressed.

Despite being more “desktop friendly,” it’s far from being small as the railgun you can see above is approximately 260mm.

Not sure why they didn’t place it under the Soul of Chogokin line, but it IS a Chogokin-branded figure. As seen above, die cast is used in its internal structure to provide stability when posing since the design is top-heavy, especially when rested on those relatively small legs when fully extended.

Much like other Chogokin releases, some armor panels are removable to reveal the internal strucutre and die cast elements.

The exterior is made from ABS, painted in the same digital camouflage pattern as other renditions. Light up LEDs are also installed on the head unit, which provide more realistic display options.

As much as they show this guy balancing on one foot, I don’t really think this can be done without an assistance of a stand or something. The solicitation does mention the inclusion of a set of special pedestals. You can definitely be creative on how you display your mini nuclear-powered bipedal tank.

Besides the special pedestal, there are support joints that can be used to display the REX in some form of forward-leaning posture.

Which means you can place REX is this very dramatic pose, though you will need to remove the stand/pedestal in post.

I’ve been leaning away from getting Tamashii Nations releases since I’ve had mixed experience with their quality control. That said, landmark items, like Chogokin Metal Gear REX over here is just too hard to pass up. Especially when they sell out really fast. At the time of posting, a good number of online shops I know already sold out their allocations of this figure. But I would still put my HobbyLink Japan affiliate link below in case some copies might be available when figure gets released in February 2026.
Again, at the same month as Soul of Chogokin Voltes V (Voltes V: Legacy) and Synergenex Shield-D-Prime, and both are already expensive.
