Shields Up! Realize Model 1/100 Shield Liger [Bang Special]

With the Blade Liger spearheading the Realize Model line, it was only a matter of time until we got its predecessor, the Realize Model 1/100 Shield Liger [Bang Special]. We’ve known that they would be releasing this kit as teased a month or so back, and now we finally have solicitations and full kit features.

The Shield Liger is a classic design, with motorized kits dating back to the 80s. But for this kit, the designers specifically took inspiration both from the 1999 motorized kit and how it appeared in the anime. While not changing the overall silhouette, they focused on adding more detail and refining the proportions.

Making this Shield Liger the “Bang Special” are the golded strike claws on each foot, and the beam cannon towards the end of the tail.

For all intents and purposes, the Shield Liger is a basic Zoid. And with a relatively simple design, it should be able to pose very well, as evident by the solicitation images shown here. The neck has a wide range of motion to allow various expressions, from roaring to threatening. Couple this with the flexible main body that provides natural curvature for bending, while utilizing fewer joints.

As with most lion-type Zoids, the Shield Liger is able to be displayed in the “V” or “reverse-V” stands for fierce standing or crouching poses.

For weapons, the Shield Liger can deploy missile pods located on its side. The connection uses 3mm joints, which provides customization options for other kits using compatible connection options.

The AMD2 twin 20mm beam cannon can fire backwards and forwards, with the latter configuration being covered by armor for extra protection when in use.

Yes, those radiator fin-like looking things are actually radiator fins, called Intercoolers. Each can be open or closed to be displayed as active or otherwise.

As the “Bang Special,” certain elements were lifted straight from the anime. These include the dual seater cockpit where you can put in-scale Bang and Fine (or Van and Fiona) figures, albeit unpainted. If you want it to be a generic Shield Liger, a single-seater cockpit part is also included. An in-scale Organoid Zeke is also included though it’s probably unpainted as well.

Of course, it’s not a Shield Liger if it’s not able to generate a shield. Translucent effect parts are included to recreate when the E-Shield is deployed. Both the shield and the Shield Liger itself can be propped by the included display stands, providing even more display options to replicate key scenes from the anime.

I like the music used here, it’s catchy.

Much like my Gunpla collection, or at least the bulk of it, my focus on the Zoids Realize Model kits are the main protagonist units. Though I also got the Trinity Liger from Zoids Saga, but you get the idea. With the rate they’re going through these designs, it will be quite a while before we get the Liger Zero and any of its variants. Until then, I’ll enjoy the few kits I have from this line.
