Now in Color! “The Round Table Knights” BE 1/144 Titan Greatsword Tristan

As expected from SNAA, the full solicitation along with colored images for the next The Round Table Knights BE 1/144 Titan Greatsword – Tristan has been released. And it does answer some questions we have about the design and the lore of this machine.

I previously mentioned design similarities with Iron Sickle – Kay, well, it’s supposed to have those similar design cues since Tristan is the leader for another set of Round Table Knights, just like Lancelot is. Though for now, we only know of Tristan and Kay, so there are two more to be revealed.

The solicitation also describes the Tristan as embellished with gold accents looking like Celtic battle patters, or at least that how they are described. I do like how they didn’t went with silver or light gray for this guy and went with a more regal color scheme. You can also see the option to use a clear green plastic cape, which is think is only present for these ‘leader’ machines.

Being SNAA’s Real Grade-derivative line, each kit has an inner frame where all the armor parts are attached. Several releases into the line and I do want to compare the inner frame of Tristan with that of the first BE release, Grace, seen below.

This might be an unfair comparison since Grace does have a simpler and leaner design when compared to Tristan, which reflects with the latter having a bulkier inner frame. But there is also noticeable presence of sculpted detail with the latter. At the very least, we’re not seeing the same inner frame parts just being reused.

As its name suggests, Tristan uses a “Titan Greatsword” as primary weapon, and it is stored at the back when not in use. I don’t think it’s in the buster sword levels of mass, but it is a significant hand-wielded blade.

Being a melee-focused machine, the Tristan also includes another sword, the Oath Sword as it’s called, which is stowed away in the shield when not in use. It’s much smaller than the Titan Greatsword, and is probably a backup weapon of sorts in case one sword isn’t enough. This allows for lots of dual sword-wielding poses when in display.

Speaking of display options, Tristan comes with a modest set. Outside of the pair of swords and shield, there’s the clear green cape piece along with its connector assembly. Finally are multiple sets of replacement hands or manipulators.

Following Kay, Tristan reinforces the sort of aesthetic this group of Round Table Knights are going for. Both are mostly white with varying color accents while sporting armor akin to a medieval knight. Not sure why they didn’t go all mono-eyes like Kay, but I guess that ultimately means I will be getting Tristan – nothing against mono-eyes, just not my preference. Tristan is also a collaboration release between SNAA and Starry Craftsman who together did the 1/100 Fire Lord kit previously.
