Gundam Avalanche Exia, and it’s more complete configuration, Gundam Avalanche Exia’ (pronounced as Dash) hails from the side story Mobile Suit Gundam 00V Battlefield Record and is one of those Exia variants I really wanted to build. There is the 2010 HG kit, though you would need to put quite the effort to make it look good thanks to its reliance on color-correcting stickers, not to mention being based on the 2007 HG Exia. Then the RG Exia came out in 2014, and third-party company Effect Wings released an Avalance Exia’ conversion kit. I got one and it has remained in the backlog ever since.
Looks like it will stay that way as we are finally getting an official RG Gundam Avalance Exia/Exia’.

To those unfamiliar, the Avalanche Exia is a configuration formed with the Avalanche Unit and provides Gundam Exia enhanced atmospheric manuverability. It may seem counterintuitive given the amount of bulk it adds to the mobile suit but it is what it is. The Avalanche Unit is mainly added to the upper sections of Gundam Exia, and to provide the same added mobility in space, the Dash Unit was then created to combine with the lower half.
These add-ons totally remove the sleek and streamlined aesthetic the Exia has so if you’re not a fan of this look, then skip this kit by all means.

Since I’ve never built an EG Exia, or any of its variants, I looked online for reviews and the common feedback is the rather loose hip joint. While I’m expecting Bandai Spirits to reuse as much of the Exia frame as possible, I still hope that some tweaks are made since the legs will be carrying much more weight with all these armor parts. Not only for the hips, but hopefully for the rest of the inner frame. That said, I will have to compensate if ever we’re given the vanilla inner frame.

Like any of its previous incarnations, you can strip down the Dash Unit and have the Gundam Avalanche Exia in all of its bulky upper body. It still looks good with all the color accurate parts so I hope the conversion between these two configurations won’t require much disassembly.

As the kit is based off the RG Exia, it naturally has all the weapons and accessories from the original kit, plus some new parts for the added armor configurations.
I believe this is also the case with the RG Exia Repair III, which also got a third-party conversion kit release much earlier than when Bandai Sprits decided to release an official kit. Believe it or not, I only have one 1/144 scale Gundam Exia kit, that being the High Grade and I’m not really keen on getting other variants, I’ll probably get the HG Exia Repair, while the rest will be the Real Grade versions.
I only have one RG Exia at the moment and I will use it for the official Exia Repair conversion set. Which is an excuse I’m imposing myself to get this guy, assuming I’m able to with how our local Premium Bandai store sells out in a second or two.
