Optimus Prime collectors are in agreement that the Voyager-class Studio Series ’86 version is currently definitive G1 cartoon/animation-accurate rendition of the character. But that doesn’t mean Hasbro would just stop there as there are other versions of Optimus Prime that exactly looks like it came from the original G1 cartoon but technically doesn’t.

And that’s what these latest leaks are about. But first, let’s quickly talk about that Voyager-class Sentinel Prime from Transformers One (2024), specifically its packaging.

Coming off Hasbro’s 1027 event last month, we got a preview of the new packaging design that aims to present a more unified look across their collector-oriented brands. And for the Studio Series Transformers One figures, we’ll see this new design with Sentinel Prime. Some might find this unified packaging boring and uninspired, but I actually prefer it because of the minimalist and premium-looking aesthetic. The plastic window is also back along with equally plastic ties.

And then we have this.

I understand the confusion some may have, especially with the recently released Studio Series ’86 version of Optimus Prime. But this one is an entirely different mold, and even an entirely different size class. This is the Studio Series Optimus Prime from the game Transformers: Devastation. To those who don’t remember or are unfamiliar with this title, Transformers: Devastation is a 2015 action-adventure game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Activision. It’s visually distinct with its use of cel shaded graphics to mimic the look of the original cartoon.
I initially thought this would just be a quick recolor of the Studio Series ’86 version but this only proves that Hasbro has a bottomless well of ways to transform an Optimus Prime figure as this is an entirely new Deluxe-class mold. I wanted to say that while this figure is totally inferior to the Commander-class version, those who can’t afford the price tag it commands now have an alternative, albeit much smaller and with more limited engineering. It still looks good though.

I haven’t played the game so I’m not sure about this, but it appears that Optimus Prime only comes with his Energon axe for weapons, no Ion Blasters seen from these photos, or the product shots at the back of the box. He does come with a Matrix of Leadership that he can hold similar to the Transformers One version. Another thing I noticed is that despite coming from a game, they didn’t release this figure under the Studio Series – Gamer Edition sub-brand.
Outside of the 2025 release window, no specifics are known outside of this leak. I do hope that we eventually get an updated Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime as the original figure didn’t do the design justice.
