Let’s Do Some Split Screen: MODEROID Tekkaman Blade & Orgun

I can’t remember which Mecha Smile Impact these two kits were announced, but I clearly remember saying how these would be great alternatives to the much more expensive RIOBOT versions from Sen-Ti-Nel. And now that solicitations for both are now up, I can confidently say that Good Smile Company wants us to buy both kits at the same time. Mostly due to their very similar nature, and aesthetics. Which is also why I’ll take a look at them side-by-side in the succeeding photos.

While both kits are technically non-scale, they stand at 175mm, making them great display pieces along with each other, and other 1/12 scale model kits or action figures. Between Tekkaman Blade and Orgun, the latter looks more mechanical with its more monotonous color scheme and details. Tekkaman Blade looks great too, with my only reference being the old and lanky Figma figure, so something that looks like a person would actually be inside is much appreciated. Oh, I still love that old lanky Figma figure though.

The similarities extend to the primary weapons as both wield a dual-edged spear or lance. Tekkaman Blade has the Tek-Lancer that can be displayed as connected or separate lances through interchangeable grip parts. The same goes for Orgun and its Orgun Lancer though in addition, it also has Organ Cutters that can be attached to the ends of the forearms.

I also like how they put the kits in the same pose.

Besides bladed weapons, both Tekkaman Blade and Orgun have hidden ones from some opening panel. For Tekkaman Blade, they are the Voltekka that are fired from opening panels on the shoulder armor, and the model kit is easily able to replicate this attack. The same is true for Orgun and its Grand Crus Attack via opening the chest armor panels.

As I mentioned previously, I’m primarily getting these two, specifically MODEROID Orgun, as the RIOBOT version hasn’t been reissued since its first release and prices have skyrocketed on the aftermarket. But I believe these kits, along with the previously announced MODEROID Borgman, which I’ll put up a post later, will sooner or later eventually lead us to a Bubblegum Crisis MODEROID kit, something I’m really wanting to have.

Thoughts?
