I was initially aiming at finally bringing some Gunpla to the office desk, especially following my two viewings of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM. But with Lunar Cruiser Prime arriving a couple of weeks ago, I decided to pivot from that plan and have another round of Transformers figures on the desk.
To those unfamiliar, Lunar Cruiser Prime is based on the Lunar Cruiser jointly developed by JAXA and Toyota. It is part of NASA’s Artemis Program that would allow astronauts to travel across the lunar surface. I also decided to bring along a couple of more recent Optimus Prime-based collaboration figures from my collection, both of which were released in 2023. First is VNR Optimus Prime (#4010 / Transformers Collaborative / VNR Optimus Prime) which is the closest to what a vanilla robot-to-truck-transforming Optimus Prime would be, a Volvo VNR truck. Then there’s Optimus Prime R5 from the collaboration with Canon, based on the R5 mirrorless camera.
I’ve been doing an annual “That’s Just Prime” One Shot and I’m currently thinking of a theme for this year. 2024 is the 40th anniversary of the Transformers franchise so I can always go with my triad of G1 Optimus Prime figures, or these guys. We’ll see.
