Totally unrelated to this post, but if you have watched How I Met Your Mother, then the title should have some familiarity to you. Anyway…
While Bandai Spirits has started releasing HG Votoms kits with the Scopedog and the upcoming Burglary Dog, Wave is chugging along their 1/35 Votoms kits, which scales well with the High Grades despite the latter being non-scale kits. I’ve still yet to build a kit from either company’s offerings but another Wave kit has gotten me interested.

The Marshydog is a variation of the Scopedog intended for underwater combat through extensive waterproofing and underwater-specific equipment. This is an ST version kit and to those unfamiliar, Wave releases kits either as ST or stardard versions or PS or “Pro Spec” versions. Standard version kits are pretty much HG kits with focus on ease of assembly and appearance. PS kits have opening cockpits with details, and can replicate the AT in “down form” or standby position.

As a variation of the Scopedog, the Marshydog kit is more or less a retool of the former with new parts mostly on the lower sections and the backpack, as well as a different hand-held weapon.

Here are closer looks at the new equipment, particularly the hydrojets on each foot, and what I assume to be the oxygen tanks mounted on the back. The tanks are connected via hoses to the lower legs, which makes me assume they’ll be made from flexible materials because otherwise, these will limit leg movement. It’s also supposed to have air barges, one on each side armor to help the Marshydog to temporarily submerge, similar to a ballast tank. The solicitations for the ST version don’t appear to mention them so I’m inclined to think they’ll probably come with the PS version.
If you’re an AT completionist and if you’ve been getting Wave’s 1/35 Votoms kits, then this is a must buy. But if you’ve started with the HG kits from Bandai Spirits, then you can also get this guy, though you might want to take a chance and wait for an HG Marshydog to be announced down the line.
