Finally, Some “Gundam AGE” Appreciation! Metal Robot Spirits ⟨Side MS⟩ Gundam AGE-FX

As surprising as an announcement this would’ve been, the figure was unfortunately leaked a week or so ago, spoiling what would’ve been genuine surprised reactions. But having a spoiled reveal still doesn’t diminish the fact that Gundam AGE is finally getting more appreciation with this gorgeous Metal Robot Spirits <Side MS> Gundam AGE-FX figure. It also continues the trend of the final lead Gundam getting the Metal Robot Spirits treatment first, similar to the Strike Freedom Gundam from Gundam SEED DESTINY or the 00 Raiser from Gundam 00.

To those needing a refresher or those who just skipped the series entirely, Gundam AGE is a generational story and a Universal Century homage at the same time, especially with the Gundam designs. Gundam AGE-FX represents the pinnacle of AGE System technology and is directly inspired by the Nu Gundam from the Universal Century.

As per usual Metal Robot Spirits flair, Gundam AGE-FX over here will have die cast materials used in its core and the joint assemblies for structural and articulation stability. The design is then made in coordination with its original designer Kanetake Ebikawa, a name most Gundam fans should be familiar with. His contribution includes both the updated proportions and the markings that provide a more realistic look to the mobile suit.

The most notable feature of the AGE-FX are the C-Funnels attached all over its body when not in use. They’re basically remote-controlled multi-purpose bladed weapons similar to the Shigeru Blade used by the AGE-1 Spallow. Their primary function is for rapid cutting though they can also act as a shield, which the figure represents in several ways.

Note that the C-Funnels can’t float on their own, though you can always edit your photos to look like they can.

Included with the figure are several armatures the C-Funnels can be attached to, and in a variety of configurations, similar to how they’re actually used in the series. These should provide several display options that would really make the Gundam AGE-FX a dynamic piece.

Besides the C-Funnels, the AGE-FX also includes other handheld weapons like the Stungle Rifle and forearm mounted Beam Sabers. Finally, the AGE-FX will also include a display stand with custom markings, just like previous Metal Robot Spirits figures.

Out of all the designs from Gundam AGE, it’s surprising that the Gundam AGE-FX is getting the least attention, especially when compared to the AGE-1 or the AGE2, the latter being prominently featured in Gundam Build Divers. So, I really appreciate Tamashii Nations going a step further and going with the AGE-FX over here. And while I don’t purchase all the Metal Robot Spirits figures they release; I think I can make an exception with Gundam AGE-FX over here. It just looks really good!
