The sophomore season of the Netflix series ULTRAMAN dropped last week, three years after the first. But it looks like we won’t have to wait for another three years as Tsuburaya Productions announced that the third, and unfortunately final, season will be coming next year, in 2023. The announcement was made through a rather cryptic video showing our titular hero, seemingly lifeless, lying on the ground while his Specium core continuously beeping in that all-too-familiar tone. You can check out the announcement clip below.
While the original manga from Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi is still ongoing, the second season of the anime has deviated from the source material to the point that we are likely to get an anime-original conclusion. Season 2 of the anime only had six episodes while season 1 had twelve, so I’m hoping we get more episodes as we get to the final season.
The following may contain spoilers for ULTRAMAN (manga).
I’m hoping we’ll get anime adaptations of the other characters and plot points revealed in more recent chapters of the manga. These include the brothers Leo and Astra, as well as Rena donning her own suit, Ultraman Suit Marie.
Bandai Spirits could also use the time between seasons to release a Figure-rise Standard kit of the Hulkbuster-like Jack Suit, though they’ll likely release one prior to the season premiere. In any case, I am looking forward to how they’ll conclude the show, especially with the somewhat more disappointing second season — which you could read more when I post my review next week.
