December 5 apparently is the birthday of Lelouch Lamperouge, or vi Britannia if you prefer. You can now add that to the roster of anime characters’ birthdays Japan celebrates. But more importantly, this was the perfect day for Sunrise to announce the next Code Geass project following the reimagined compilation movies and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection.

Last Saturday, a press conference, which was also streamed online worldwide, was held to formally launch the CODE GEASS Next 10years Project. As the name suggests, this is an initiative to create multiple new content under the Code Geass franchise for the next 10 years. The Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection film is “phase one” of this project.
Embedded above is the announcement trailer, albeit in Japanese, and two projects were revealed. First is Code Geass: Z of the Recapture which is a new animated production. Both Goro Taniguchi and Ichiro Okouchi are still credited for the original story but this new work is going to be directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi with scripts written by Noboru Kimura.
The second reveal was Code Geass: Genesic Re;CODE, a smartphone game which sees the characters from the various animated productions together and allows the player to play through stories within the franchise. It also introduces an original scenario with new characters, combined with animation sequences provided by Sunrise.
While I’ve yet to watch Akito the Exiled, the compilation movies, and Lelouch of the Re;surrection, I’m totally looking forward to these new projects as Code Geass established a very interesting world with a endless stories to tell. And of course new nightmare frames which should translate to new figures or model kits.
