It’s always a treat when Western franchises put homages or take inspiration form the mainly Japanese mecha genre to their productions. Though I personally think it’s still geared toward the more child-friendly end of the spectrum rather than the more grittier tone seen in Japanese media. In any case, Marvel is taking a crack at the mecha genre as they announced a new series coming in February 2021.
Written by Jed MacKay (BLACK CAT) with art by Carlos Magno (FANTASTIC FOUR, EMPYRE: AVENGERS), AVENGERS MECH STRIKE will kick off a bold new age of action-packed Avengers battles that will send shockwaves throughout the comic book industry and beyond! Uniting against an unstoppable enemy, AVENGERS MECH STRIKE #1 is just the beginning of this epic story that will unfold throughout next year!

As mentioned, the series will run throughout next year and will feature The Avengers donning mech suits, which is kind of a larger extension of the “what if Tony Stark gave each Avenger a suit of armor?” concept. Looking at the designs, I personally don’t think much thought was given to them outside of being larger and more mechanical versions of their current suit designs. I could be wrong though.
I do hope Hasbro capitalizes on this and releases some Marvel Legends Series figures of these new and larger mechanical versions of our favorite heroes.
