The absence of a live-action Transformers feature film leaves a void within collectors that don’t prefer the blockier, G1-styled Generations figures or the gimmick-heavy younger-oriented offerings from Cyberworld or Wild King. There are those who prefer a more realistic and grittier take on these robots in disguise. And after several years of absence, Takara Tomy, via their T-Spark brand, is finally filling the void with the new Transformers OVERGEAR line.
Before going deeper, I’d let this promotional video provide the concept behind this new line.
A world has already been taken… Unbeknownst to humanity, the Decepticons have cleverly infiltrated society and taken control of the Earth from behind the scenes. Corporations, the military, intelligence networks—everything is under their control. Freedom has been lost, dignity has been trampled upon. But hope remains. The Autobots have risen from defeat and secretly formed the Autobot Resistance. Disguised as private organizations and vigilante groups, and morphing into specialized and modified vehicles, they continue to resist on the shadow battlefield. The fate of the battle will depend on the new technology of the Transformers… fully armed OVERGEAR. By stacking their entire bodies with equipment, they push tactics to the limit. This is the story of the battle between humanity and Transformers to reclaim their freedom.
Basically a more militaristic take on the Transformers characters we’re familiar with. So much so that the two opening figures perfectly fit this bill.

Transformers OVERGEAR OG-01 Ironhide
October 2026 / ¥16,000
Order from HobbyLink Japan

Transformers OVERGEAR OG-02 Blackout
October 2026 / ¥18,000
Order from HobbyLink Japan
Part of the OVERGEAR feature is the abundance of 3mm and 5mm ports to allow customization via the attachment of different weapons and accessories. So I guess, while not advertised, you can technically use the 3mm weapon sets from 30 Minutes Missions for more weapons.
In addition to the lore trailer above, they also released an introductory video for the line and the first two figures. You can check it out below.
Now you know me, when it comes to Transformers figures, I’m more of an Optimus Prime guy. And while these two look great, I would likely skip them in favor of Optimus Prime. Well, it looks like it will be a question of when as they did tease the OVERGEAR Optimus Prime design seen below;

I bet this truck will not feature any of the paint deco that became the signature of his live-action counterpart. I imagine this will be a more muted release with highlights just like Ironhide and Blackout. But we can go deeper once this guy is officially announced.
