Someone Would Want This: The Robot Spirits ⟨Side MS⟩ Hypered Gundam (GQ)

When the RX-78-2 Gundam, or a variant of it in some universe, appeared in the climactic battle of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, no one expected it will do a Dunbine, or a Rei Ayanami from Evangelion, and turn gigantic. If anyone wanted to replicate this in their own shelves, most would turn into the Mega Size Model RX-78-2 Gundam which might not be completely scale accurate, but at this point, scale is basically moot.

But if you want something ready straight out of the box, then the folks over at Tamashii Nations has you covered.

This form of the original Gundam is now officially referred to as the Hypered Gundam, and this figure, more or less, looks like an upscale of the regular Robot Spirits version. Of course with the muted colors and hopefully engineering to support its 400mm of sheer size.

Accurate to its appearance in the series, the Hypered Gundam only comes with a pair of Beam Sabers as primary weapon, and it will come with human-sized beam effect parts. The solicitations also show the figure in a variety of poses, but let me warn you that the sheer size alone would make posing this thing a chore. I would also hope all of its joints are ratcheted for stability.

Despite the size, the hands/manipulators don’t have poseable fingers/digits, so you will have to make with replacement parts when posing.

You might think this will scale well with the Metal Robot Spirits version of the GQuuuuuuX and GFreD. You can do forced perspective when taking photos, but to represent accurate scale, this thing comes with clear in-scale figures of both the GQuuuuuuX and GFreD as seen from the show. With the GFreD ready to be crushed while the GQuuuuuuX as it charges to do its final strike with its equally large Hyper Beam Axe.

Still on display options, the figure does include what I think is a metal rod for a stand. I don’t think you’re able to manuever it outside of just standing straight, so you will still need to be creative to put this thing into more dynamic-looking poses. But the inclusion of a display stand is still appreciated regardingless.

This is clearly not for me as I don’t see any practicality in owning a near-meter tall action figure that you’ll pose once in a while. But for those who were clearly enamored by the final episode battle from Gundam GQuuuuuuX, then this is for you. As expected, this is a Premium Bandai exclusive so you should know the drill.
